<p>In diet plans you may need a bathroom scale to measure the results. Customers can choose from different types of bathroom scales. Trying to choose the right scale for your specific needs can be challenging indeed. One important thing to keep in mind when selecting a scale is accuracy. Dieters should have a realistic starting point to measure the results. In the past, scales had a spring action which was inaccurate. A good bathroom scale should have a means of ‘zeroing out’ the starting weight for better accuracy. One of the ways to measure accuracy is to place an object with a known weight on it. A five pound bag of sugar or a ten pound weightlifting plate should register accurately on a new bathroom scale. Another important thing to keep in mind while buying a bathroom scale is range. Older scale used to stop at 300 pounds and accuracy above 250 pounds was variable. Newer digital and spring scales have ranges of 500 pounds or more. As the user is standing on a bathroom scale, easy readability of the numbers could also be a problem. If you have purchased a spring oriented scale, you can see large numbers in increments of ten while the individual pounds may be small hash marks. Digital scales may display large electronic numbers easily read from 5 or 6 feet away. To check readability, stand on the bathroom scale as you would during an actual weighing and look down at the display without crouching. Some bathroom scale feature extras such as an electronic voice, paper printout or body fat measurements. Users stand on a set of metallic footpads which send a small, harmless current through their bodies.
There are two types of bathroom scales: mechanical or digital. Digital scales are considered more accurate than traditional analog scales. Digital bathroom scales display the weight on a liquid crystal display (LCD) screen as a number with decimal points, foregoing the need to read a dial and reporting a more accurate weight measurement. Many people prefer buying inexpensive digital scales because they weigh in half pound increments. Scales that weigh smaller increments may be more expensive and more accurate. Some bathroom scales measure weight down to 50 gram increments, causing even a drink of water or cup of coffee to register. Nowadays bathroom scales provide additional information about the body like the percentage of body fat, water weight and muscle weight. Some models base calculations on information the user provides as to height, age and gender, while other bathroom scales use low-level electronic pulses.</p>
